Anno Domini Casanovas... a new breed of "men"!

There is one thing that Fidel Castro, Wilt Chamberlain, Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson and Hugh Hefner all had in common... they are all womanizers and real life Casanovas!

This isn't the first time I blog about this topic (see my previous post One-Woman-Men... An Urban Legend???) and here I am once again incensed by this breed of camouflaged promiscuous heterosexual men who seem to be multiplying in numbers by the day as they feed off the vulnerability of once self-respecting women!

We know they exist, we know how they operate, and we KNOW that we SHOULD steer clear of them... yet many of us have the disposition to keep falling victim to their tactics and ways....

Why???

Its simple... you see ladies; a womanizer is not your average man who simply can't keep it in his pants!  A womanizer is a very smart, intellectual and highly deceptive man who can't keep it in his pants!

And why we fail to safeguard ourselves from them?... Well that is a combination of the Triangular Theory of Love and the Labor Theories of Value.

The former explains our tendency as women to attract womanizers by developing one of two things;
  1. What the Triangular Theory of Love refers to as 'infatuated love' which is based solely on passion driven by limerence and sexual attraction
  2. What the Triangular Theory of Love refers to as 'romantic love' which is based on a combination of passion and longing for intimacy
The latter theories - Labor Theories of Value or LTV - are heterodox economic theories of value which womanizers use as a base on which they formulate all of their tactics.  LTV argues that the value of a commodity is related to the labor needed to produce or obtain that commodity.  In other words; womanizing tactics are a calculated approach by womanizers based on the amount of effort (labor) that he will have to put in in order to get (obtain) his D to the W (commodity)!

D to the W / (effort x number of options) = potential to womanize

SIMPLE MATHS!!!!!

However, it is important to note that in order for womanizers to succeed, evolve and grow among us they will need BOTH the Triangular Theory of Love AND the Labor Theories of Value to be in their favor - i.e. if the woman is not desperate or if she has standards and therefore a high cost then she will simply be far too high risk of an investment to a womanizer in which case he will halt all operations as soon as he realizes that his womanizing tactics will fail to bear any fruit!... and that, my ladies, is the key to stone walling womanizers.

It has nothing to do with the fact that they're "good" at womanizing and deceiving us, but everything to do with whether we are in a state of contempt or content where the former is the silver plate on which woman are served to womanizers!

Adore Me, But Don't Call Me Adorable!

a·dore/əˈdôr/
Verb:  Love and respect (someone) deeply.

Two words, one is a verb, one is an adjective and on paper are very much directly related.  However, my male friends, don’t make the mistake of thinking that they exert the same effect when said out loud to your lady!

Let me tell you right now, every woman wants to be adored and if she tells you otherwise; she’s either lying or she’s getting it from someone else!... On the other hand, however, most of us do not want to be labelled as adorable by the opposite sex especially if our feelings for that man extend beyond your average friendship parameters!

Love.  Respect.  I don’t know about you ladies, but these are the two most important and valuable things to me when referring to a relationship and someone who I’ve signed a psychological contract with to love and respect him back.  These are the essence and bare minimum of any strong, loyal, happy and long-lasting relationship.  I’m all for compromises, but love and respect are the building blocks of my priorities, standards and values when it comes to relationships.

Calling me adorable on the other hand is something that I can definitely (and prefer to) live without.  I don’t need a man to tell me that I’m beautiful every day cause I know that every once in a while he’ll be telling a lie (a white lie, but a lie nonetheless).  I don’t need a man to tell me that I look good in everything, cause even if he truly believes it (bless him), there will be days when I will pick an outfit that I will be convinced (although not necessarily true) makes me look fat or pale or tasteless (I’m not perfect).  And I most certainly do not need a man (although nice if he does so every now and then) to tell me how adorable he thinks I am, because like anything else, that won’t last forever... try to take that to the bank in twenty years time and see what you can get for it!

What I do need is a man who will love me... a man who will respect me... a man who will adore me!... Because even if that doesn’t last forever, to have been loved, respected and adored once is better than to never have been loved, respected and adored at all!

So adore me... but do not call me adorable!

Single and ready to mingle... Just not with YOU!

I'm the kind of person who was never embarrassed or sad to be single.  I always embraced it.  The freedom.  The peacefulness.  The buffet!

Until recently, I was single and proud!...

The longer I'm single, however, the more I start to notice that to a single man; a single woman is an interested woman!

What the logic behind that is, who knows!... But then again, we are talking about men here, and they are from Mars!

There has been so many occasions where I have had to scrummage through my bag to find anything that resembles a ring to throw on my finger just so that the man I was in mid conversation with would get the hint that I am not interested

Attention all Females: Number 1 Rule of Thumb - Unless you fancy him... you have a "boyfriend"!

Attention all Males: No Means No (click if you would like to be reminded of WHY)

My dear male friends & readers... sorry to be a wet blanket here, but the power of persistence is a MYTH!!!... If a women is not interested, then the last place it will lead you to is her heart (or for most lower-organ-thinking men, her bed), and instead you'll find your self in court for what you would call persistence and what we would call harassment

So I will state this again, and keep doing so until I stop having to do the 'ring flip'*... Not every woman is going to be interested in you, so get over your self and change that mentality.  In saying that though, it doesn't mean that there's something wrong with you, it just means that she's simply not interested in you and that she's probably not right for you so separate your sense of self-worth from how women perceive you and MOVE ALONG

*Ring Flip: when a woman would flip her ring only to expose the band part in an attempt to indicate that she is "engaged" or in more sever cases... "married"

Lightening doesnt strike the same place twice!

We have all been presented with wonderful opportunities at some point in our lives and have turned these opportunities down for a reason that seemed valid enough at the time, only to find ourselves months or years down the line thinking 'what if'?!!!

Why is it that when we find 'the one' we don't hang on to them like we should?

Why is it that when we get offered the perfect job, we turn it down because we're intimidated by the chance that it could be too good to be true?

Why is it that when someone offers to help us, we refuse because we believe that we can do it on our own or that we don't want to owe anyone anything?

I could go on and on asking these questions, but i'll stop there.

These are all opportunities that most of us live our entire lives dreaming of, and for most will never get the chance to see them materialize!... So why is it that when they come knocking, we fail to answer the door?!

They say lightening doesnt strike the same place twice, and i'm a firm believer in that.  I believe that one should never take things for granted, as regret is a horrible lifelong companion.  I never want to look back and regret anything, but if i had to then i'd rather regret things that i have done and didnt work out than things that i didnt do.  'What if?' are two words that i would never want hanging over my head, not now, not ever!

Love is the most common cause of 'What if?' cases.  It is rare, and most of us live our whole lives without feeling the sting of cupid's arrow.  However, there are those of us lucky enough to be chosen by cupid at least once in their lives, yet they take the other person for granted and before they know it its too late and that other person has moved on.

Heres one final question that I have as i've noticed this in relationships i've had in the past and in relationships my friends have been in; Do men have higher tolerance for cupids potion that by the time it reaches their heart the effect of that same potion had worn off the heart of the woman they truely desire?

Lovers, I will leave you with this, next time lightneing strikes embrace it and make the most of it as lightening does strike the same place twice... and neither does Cupid's bow and arrow!!!

One-Woman-Men.... an Urban Legend???

When a women meets a man and together embark on a new relationship, unless that man highlights his intentions to see other woman, a psychological contract is formed that he is a OWM or a "One Woman Man"!

Now let me make this clear as in the past, a OWM was believed to refer to a mans marital status and the practice of polygamy.  I am not referring to marital status and hence polygamy (which was a big misconception of the term formed within historical religious communities as it was not accepted by the Roman society nor by the Scripture).  I am referring to a mans sexual purtiy and moral to honor that psychological contract.

In today's Anno Domini era, the term OWM not only concerns married men and men who are in a relationship, but men in general!

This is because the shelf life of an average relationship is getting shorter and shorter... sad, but true!

Point is, my male friends; why is the attention and desire of one woman not enough these days no matter who that woman is?

Are One-Woman-Men simply an Urban Legend???

I really hope that the answer to that question is a 'No', but i'm not so sure anymore!!!

Nebuchadnezzar II, Shah Jahan, King Edward VIII..... and You & Me!

The Chaldean King, Nebuchadnezzar II, adored his wife so much that he built her a 100 feet (30 m) long by 100 ft wide garden.  Built up in tiers so that it resembled a theatre. Vaults had been constructed under the ascending terraces which carried the entire weight of the planted garden. Nebuchadnezzar II built his Amytis of Media wife the Hanging Gardens of Babylon!

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

Shah Jahan loved his wife - Mumtaz Mahal - so much, that he refused to let her death (while giving birth to their 14th child) be the end of her existence.  So in her memory, he built her one of the largest tombs today; a tomb that is not a piece of architecture, as other buildings are, but the proud passions of an emperor’s love wrought in living stones.  Shah Jahan built his wife the Taj Mahal!

The Taj Mahal

On 10th December 1936, King Edward VIII (in my opinion) made THE most romantic gesture of history, by signing the Instrument of Abdication and giving up something most of us wont even dare to dream of having just to be with his American never-to-be-approved-as-Queen-by-the-public darling; Wallis Simpson.  King Edward VIII willingly gave up his throne as King of England for Wallis Simpson!

King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson

I dont need you to be my Nebuchadnezzar II and build me Hanging Gardens.  I dont need you to be my Shah Jahan and build me a Taj Mahal... And i would never want you to be a King Edward VIII, as i would never ask you to give up anything for me...

Dear Geek Charming: All I ask for is a simple romantic gesture.  An act of love, care and desire that will make me remember today tens of years from now!

Why is it so hard to find a man these days that is proud to show you (and every now and then the rest of the world) how he really feels about you?

I have girlfriends who wait day and night to hear from "him"... I have other girlfriends who would say no to a life changing opportunity just to be with "him"... so why is it so hard for "him" to do the same for "her"?

Once again... Attention All Males: Romance does not equal weakness so separate your sense of self-worth from how others perceive you.  To a woman, a romantic gesture is proof of your confidence as a man... and call me old fashioned, but theres nothing sexier than a confident man who's not scared of letting you or the rest of the world know that:..... She's mine!

The Perfect Rose... 25 years and counting!

They say that in Victorian times, a man would present a bouquet of roses to his beloved woman that held much meaning once the flowers were looked at.  These bouquets were called "tussie-mussies" and every relationship began with their presentation.

Well ladies, unfortunately for us, we no longer live in Victorian times.  These days, the only time a woman would be presented a rose or a "tussie-mussies" is if she's sick, in farewell or graduating.... every now and then one in a thousand gets lucky and recieves a bouquet on Valentine's Day, but point is that the evocative meaning of the 'rose' has dissipated with time and the power that a Rose once held is now inexistent!!!

This really saddens me, as I refuse to let such a wonderful symbol of love, honor and faith become 'just another flower' where these days you find in tasteless bouquets mixed with lillies, daisies and lotuses.

So allow me to educate the oh-so-confused modern day man and remind the oh-so-hopelessly-romantic modern day woman of the true meaning of the ROSE and bring back the Victorian Romance...

Yellow Rose: "I really care about you as a friend"

White Rose: "I really care about you more than a friend"

Amber Flush Rose: "You have a special place in my heart, although i'm confused"

Pale Pink Rose: "I'm trying to lead you on but have no genuine intentions" -  hence the most hideous color of all roses!

Pale Peach Rose: "You make me really happy and I wish to do the same"

Orange Rose: "I desire you"

Dark Pink Rose: "I adore you"

Red Rose: "I love you"

Purple Rose: "You are my everything"

Believe it or not, I have never had a man give me flowers my whole life, which means that i've never had the pleasure of receiving a Rose... of any color!

25 years on... and i'm still waiting for my Purple Rose

The 'S' word

I know its a word that all females hate... and believe me ladies i dont like it any more than you do... but as much as it pains me to ask... are we being forced to Settle?

It’s been a while since my last post… and a lot has changed… a lot except for the fact that I’m still single and growing frustrated of males in Dubai

Are my expectations of finding a decent guy too high?...

Have I been single that long that the dating game has completely changed?...

Should I just settle for what is available?...

No… absolutely not… I refuse to settle. Surely there is at least one half decent guy in Dubai… right????

I thought I came close – TWICE – over the last few months.

First there was the guy who I’d known for a while; a friend… until I realized that although he was a “friend” to me, I meant more than that to him!... Nice guy though so I figured there was no harm in keeping an open mind and see if any feelings develop. Fortunately for me, he was part of the same social circle; always at the same place at the same time with the same crowd, which made it easy. Unfortunately for me, the guy would only BBM me on a Thursday night to see if I’ll be out that night. Never heard from him during the week… So he stopped hearing from me at all!

What is it about spending time with a girl at a place where you can actually have a conversation that scares the male species?... I mean males like to eat dinner don’t they? … They like to go to the movies or have coffee... dont they?  Well guess what Mr. Testosterone… SO DO WE!

Guy #2 – great guy… awesome to hang out with… really cute… hard working… doing very well for himself… not into partying... DOESN’T LIVE IN DUBAI!!!... typical!. Tried to stay in touch through BBM.. called me for Valentine’s day… but who am I kidding… I can hardly remember what the guy looks like now!

Ladies of Dubai…. GENTLEMEN OF DUBAI…. Whatever happened to traditional dating?

Whatever happened to taking a girl out to dinner?

Whatever happened to romance?

Whatever happened to a man going after the girl his heart skipped a beat for and making sure nothing gets in his way till he can proudly say to others “that’s my girl”?

Whatever happened to men with balls?

Whatever happened to heterosexual men?

Are there any left out there?

Are meterosexual men our only choice?

I just want a guy who will adore me but not call me adorable... a guy who will call me on Wednesday to make sure that he's part of my plans on Thursday instead of BBMing on Thursday night!

Well ladies... I refuse to settle... i will find my guy... and I hope that I'm a lot closer than I think!

Middle Eastern Haven

On the 7th of January this year I got on a flight from Dubai and went to the beautiful Sharm El Sheikh.  I met my friend from New Zealand there, and I knew I was in for an amazing four days... and i was right

The next four days were nothing short of amazing... full of sunshine... beautiful beaches... and beautiful people

We stayed at the Marriott Beach Resort in Naama Bay... which was an excellent choice, as after walking around and checking out all the resorts, it was the most beautiful by far.  It had the best beach area and was within walking distance of the main town area.  However, there were two other options that were slights (key word being SLIGHTLY) closer to the main town area and were also very decent were; the Hilton and Novotel

Sharm El Sheikh visitors be warned: When you are booking at a resort in Naama Bay make sure that you request the beach side and not the mountain side.  Basically every hotel/resort in Naama Bay has two parts which are exactly across the road from each other; the beach side and the mountain side.  And although guests of either can use the facilities of both... crossing that main road that seperates the two is no fun

Also, as per my Nepal post, always negotiate and agree on the cab fare before you get in the cab.  We found this out the hard way twice... from the airport to the resort, and on another occasion from the resort to the old town area.  When you arrive at the airport, some guy will walk up to you asking if you need a cab - and although he will get you a cab, he will also rip you off at the same time - so say NO.  Walk out of the terminal and there will be plenty of cabs outside which you can negotiate a price with.  THE AIRPORT IS LITERALLY 2 MINUTES FROM ALL RESORTS IN NAAMA BAY.... DO NOT ACCEPT A HIGH CAB FARE!!!

However, overall, Sharm was very cheap; we stayed four nights at the best resort in town and spent AED3,000 which included accomodation, flights, and all other expenses (including cabs)!!!

First night, we went for a walk into town where it felt like you were in the old Vegas.  Neon lights everyone... everyone out and about having dinner/coffee/shisha, looking fab and ready to hit one of the three most popular spots in town; Pacha, Bus Stop or The Hard Rock!... We had dinner at some extremely popular shisha spot in the middle of the town centre and just sat back and people watched taking it all in!... What a place!

Second day, we spent by the pool at the resort where we soaked up the sun, sipped on cocktails, and did little else!... At night; we got all dolled up and went to the main town area for dinner and boy were we spoiled for choice.  For a place as small as Naama Bay, the number of beautiful cafes and restaurants is insane.  So we chose some place that was full of young beautiful people and we had a wonderful arabic meal.  We stayed for a while until the food had digested, then headed on down to Pacha where the party was really happening.  The place is amazing; its semi outdoor, and multi levels (kinda felt like we were in a jungle)!... we partied the night away then headed back to the resort for some much needed sleep

Third day was beach day... the beach was so beautiful that we were kicking our selves for going to the pool the day before.  The water was warm and crystal clear.  There were people swimming, diving, snorkling, you name it.  So again, we spent the majority of the day soaking up the sun, sipping on cocktails and doing little else!.  At night, we headed back down to town, but this time it was not to party... it was to SHOP!  The shops there have some of the most beautiful jewellery and accessories i've ever seen, and the prices are amazing.

Fourth day was full of beaches, lunches, more shopping and walking around exploring the beautiful Naama Bay!

It is true what they say though... Sharm is full of Italians.  Sometimes I had to remind myself that I was still in the Middle East

An incredible Middle Eastern haven overall and very highly recommended

Although a bit of warning: It tends to get very cold at night around January so make sure you take warm clothes!

I think i left my heart in Sharm El Sheikh!!! xo

Attention all males: NO means NO

I've noticed a growing trend lately with a large percentage of males in Dubai to whom the word "NO" (coming from a female) means absolutely nothing

I don't know whether its a lack of respect for women, or the fact that the majority of the men in this city think that they're heaven-sent, but telling a male that your not interested these days is the worst thing a female can do if she wants to get rid of him as they think that any response from a female (even if it is a NO) is like an invitation to continue whatever the hell it is they're doing - whether its trying their pathetic pickup lines, asking you where you are from before they even say hi (which seems to be a trend), or just awkwardly standing next to you or in front of you and stare and not say anything hoping that you'll just fall head over heels in love with them and live happily ever after!!!!!!!!!!!!! (seriously?.... WOW)

I went to Barasti last night with a friend of mine (girl) after the Rugby Sevens (therefore i was all kitted out in NZ gear)... she got up and went to the bathroom... she was gone no longer than 5 minutes and here's what happened:...

1 Minute - The Creep - a creepy old man who's old enough to be my dad:
The Creep: "excuse me, when is the best time to go to New Zealand"
...the guy didn't even know where NZ was so you can imagine how the rest of the conversation went!

2 Minutes - The Loser - some desperate guy who had clearly come to Barasti hoping to find some poor drunk expat who's vision will be so blurred that she'll think he's prince charming:
The Loser: "are you Arab?"
Me: "NO".
The Loser: "are you Indian?"
Me: "NO".
The Loser: "are you Arab?" (yes... AGAIN)...
...let’s just say what happened next made sure that he won’t be showing his face at Barasti again

3 Minutes - The Fly - some dude kept circulating around me probably in the hopes that I’ll eventually look up, see him and fall head over heels in love with him (cause let’s face it... that’s how it normally works right ladies???!!! *eyes rolling*)... he eventually ended up behind me at some point, taps me on my shoulder and says:
The Fly: "can i buy you a drink?"
.... no thanks, i can afford my own drink!

4 Minutes - The Smooth Guy - so some guys think that they're sooo smooth.. sooo charming... sooo irresistible... that all they have to do is drop a casual (more like a random) line to get the girls attention and she'll be hooked:
Smooth Guy: "why is a pretty girl like you sitting alone"
Me: "I'm not... my friends just gone to the bathroom"
Smooth Guy: "friend girl or friend boy" (oh god the freshness!!!)
Me: "it doesn't matter... now move along"

5 Minutes - my friend comes back and i thank the lord

But seriously, what is it with guys being so desperate these days... i mean the ratio of women to men in this world is 1:1.05... so it is almost safe to say that for every man there is a woman... so relax guys... stop being so desperate... and when a woman says "no" that means "NO"... move on to the next poor victim

TIPS:

  1. I understand that most men fear rejection as it lowers their self esteem, but sometimes rejection can turn into an ordeal ten times worse if a male is in denial and chooses not to accept it... and that, my male friends, i can guarantee will do some serious damage to your self esteem
  2. Also, here's another little tip my male friends (thank me later)... if you are frequently hearing "NO" and getting rejected; its clearly time to CHANGE YOUR APPROACH!
  3. Not every women is going to be interested in you... so get over your self and stop thinking that.  In saying that, that doesn't mean that there's something wrong with you, it just means that she's simply not interested in you and that she probably not right for you so separate your sense of self-worth from how women perceive you and MOVE ON!
  4. If you're embarrassed of getting rejected in front of your "boys" then don't hit on women while they're around... because let me tell you a little something about us women... we DON'T get intimidated... so if you're on your own or with your posse... we will still reject you if we want to... so save yourself the humiliation and do it without your posse holding your hand
  5. Don't hit on a woman just for the sake of it.... when will men learn this.... stop being horny and control yourself for gods sake!

And The Fog is Finally Lifting...

Have you ever found yourself in a position where all of a sudden something unexpected has stopped you dead in your tracks and made you think "this is my life... but how did i get here?!"

Its 7.31am... my alarm went off 15 minutes ago and I'm still lying in bed thinking.... asking my self the same question I've been asking since the day i moved to Dubai... "Where am i gonna be in a couple of years from now?.... where DO i wanna be in a couple of years from now?"

Well I'll tell you what.. that "couple of years" deadline is fast approaching and i still have no idea where i wanna be or what I'm gonna be doing... until a couple of minutes ago that is... there i was lying in bed and it finally hit me... its been the most obvious option and i cant believe i haven't thought of it any sooner... I've never felt more clear about my near future and its an amazing feeling... having a short term plan gives you something to look forward to... it gives you ambition... It gives me HOPE!

But its not going to be easy getting there... lets just say that I'm going back to basics!

So wish me luck my dear readers as i embark on a new mission... a new journey... a new adventure... as this time next year i hope to be posting a blog by the title "...As The Sun Starts to Shine"

My Geek Charming

Franklin Jones once said that "love doesn't make the world go round.  love is what makes the ride worthwhile"...

It feels as if my whole life this far has been nothing more than a journey preparing me for my real life for when it begins... yet when i think about the moment which defines the beginning of my real life i cant steer away from one thing... the four letter word which can make me feel joyful and miserable at the same time... L.O.V.E

I am not one who gets emotionally attached to anyone... yet i am a hopeless romantic... i am in love with the idea of being in love yet for the past 25 years that's all it seems to be... an idea

my idea of love is my irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired...  its finding that someone who will look at me without judging me at a time when the whole world is... someone who can give me reason to go on with my life at a time when i can no longer go on living... someone who can inspire me at a time when the canvas i call my life has been painted grey... someone who can give me peace at a time of war... someone who will define then redefine my idea of love

we are all in search of love whether we know it or not... for some reason we believe that by finding love we will find happiness... i will be the first to admit that i do believe in this... i do believe that the day i find love is the day that i will find happiness

turning my life upside down and moving to Dubai gave me hope again... new place... new people... a chance at finding love... yet here i am a year and a half later feeling extremely loveless

most women are constantly searching for their prince charming... but not me... i don't need a good looking man or a wealthy one... i need a wise man... a man who will have respect for me... but more importantly a man who will love me more than i will ever love him... i am looking for my Geek Charming

According to William Shakespeare, love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs. Being purged, a fire sparkling in lover's eyes. Being vexed, a sea nourished with lovers' tears. What is it else? A madness most discreet, a choking gall and a preserving sweet.  If that truly defines love then i am more than ready for it... for i have long had the fire burning within me... have been vexed in my journey to love and have shed many tears... and now here i am... ready for the sour and sweet madness they call L.O.V.E...
